The trapezium

The perimeter of a trapezium is obtained by adding lengths of all the sides of the trapezium. Study the following trapezium:

The perimeter of a trapezium = $m + n + r + p$

Since perimeter is a length, it can be measured in centimetres, metres or any other unit of length depending on the dimensions of the given figure.

Example 1

Find the perimeter of the following figure:

The lengths of the sides of the trapezium are 7 cm, 4 cm, 10 cm and 5 cm. Therefore,

Perimeter of a trapezium = 7 cm + 4 cm + 10 cm + 5 cm = 26 cm

Therefore, the perimeter of the trapezium is 26 cm.
